Prairie Grove has excellent parks, with the Aquatic Park drawing
over 23,000 guests last year alone. Delford
Rieff Park has excellent baseball facilities and
over 35 teams participated in summer ball programs in 2006. The
park also includes a walking track, sand volleyball, as well at
the baseball field and Aquatic Park.
Mock
Park,
a small but quaint oasis in downtown Prairie Grove, is home to
the beautiful Anna Holmes Dorman Public Library. This brick and
native stone building houses books of all interests, public computers,
videos, and many other programs and services. The library’s
counterpart, the Prairie Grove Children’s
Library, is located just across Mock Park and
is the only stand alone children’s
library in the state. The library focuses on the
child, and provides reading opportunities in a much more relaxed
environment than is normally found in a library setting. Games,
computers, and a wide array of children’s programs and activities
make this the place to be for kids. Mock Park also includes a
state of the art playground, complete with a space net, basketball
courts, gazebo, picnic tables, and of course summer color.
The state's only Civil War Battlefield
State Park is located in
Prairie Grove and offers miles of hiking trails, a historic driving
tour, historic period buildings, a museum, and many special programs
throughout the year. On Labor Day, the park hosts tens of thousands
of visitors the annual Clothesline
Fair, one of the top arts and crafts venues in
the South.
Other nearby attractions include Devil’s
Den State Park, Bob
Kidd Lake (map),
and Lake
Wedington. Opportunities for camping, swimming,
fishing, and just enjoying nature abound.
Numerous clubs
are available that encourage camaraderie, projects, and local
civic pride. The Masonic Temple, Lion’s Club, Women’s
Federated Club, Jr. Civic League, Prairie
Grove Chamber of Commerce, and Friends of the Library all
welcome new members.
