Animal Control Services & Pet Ownership

Annual animal license renewal is required by City Ordinance 1989-3.

  • All cats and dogs in the City Limits must have a City Tag.
  • Proof of a current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is required.
  • Animal tags are good from 12/31 through the following 12/31.
  • All dogs must be kept in a fenced yard.

 

Persons may obtain these licenses at the Prairie Grove Water Department, 975 E. Douglas St.

License Fees Effective January 1, 2014

Spayed & Neutered Animal (before May 1st) $10.00
Unspayed or Unneutered Animal (before May 1st) $25.00
Spayed & Neutered Animal (after May 1st) $20.00
Unspayed or Unneutered Animal (after May 1st) $50.00
  • $5 discount if dog is micro-chipped;
  • proof of micro-chipping required

Prices double after May 1st with the exception of new animals. 

The Animal Control Officer may impound unlicensed animals and a fee will be charged to the owner. A pick-up fee of $10.00 plus $5.00 a day impoundment fee is required if the dog is picked up.
